Bei der Palme unten (engl. “down by the palm tree”) is a documentary film project that explores urban spaces in Vienna. The well-known Café Weidinger and the Lugner City, a shopping mall are portrayed from the perspective of their visitors, their owners and guests. Both locations are places to linger and to meet and are defined by the everyday routines of their users. The on-site interviews form a central element of the work. They allow brief insights into different realities of life and fill the rooms with stories without ever showing the faces of the narrators. The peculiar poetry of the rooms, the arrangement of the objects and the details speak for themselves.

„Bei der Palme unten“ ist ein Dokumentarfilmprojekt, das städtische Räume in Wien erkundet. Das bekannte Café Weidinger und das Einkaufszentrum Lugner City werden aus der Perspektive ihrer Besucher, ihrer Besitzer und Gäste dargestellt. Beide Orte sind Orte des Verweilens und der Begegnung und werden durch die Alltagsroutinen ihrer Nutzer geprägt. Die Interviews vor Ort bilden ein zentrales Element der Arbeit. Sie gewähren kurze Einblicke in unterschiedliche Lebensrealitäten und füllen die Räume mit Geschichten, ohne jemals die Gesichter der Erzählenden zu zeigen. Die eigentümliche Poesie der Räume, die Anordnung der Objekte und die Details sprechen für sich.
